I am a chess professional for more than 20 years and I have won quite a few opens.
My coaching successes include coaching three champions of Catalunya in the U14 and U16 categories. I like to delve deep into psychology, openings, calculation, anything that may improve the thinking process of my students.
I write on my very popular blog www.alexcolovic.com, voted One of the Best Chess Blogs on the Planet (http://www.alexcolovic.com/2016/12/best-chess-blogs-on-planet.html)!
I became a Grandmaster by doing a lot of tactical exercises, mainly studies. It improved my calculation dramatically and I easily crossed 2500.
About me
Playing experience
Phew, quite a lot. Started playing at the age of 6, that's a lot of experience! I was a globe-trotting player for a very long time and I must say it was worth it! Currently I'm active in the 4NCL league in the UK.
Teaching experience
I was hired as a coach by the Balaguer (Spain) Chess Club in 2007 and had a great run of results with my students, as they won the U14 and U16 Championships of Catalunya. Currently I am working with a very talented 15-year old from the Canary Islands.
Other experiences
Apart from my blog www.alexcolovic.com I also write for Chess Informator and British Chess Magazine. I love the analytical approach to chess connected with the psychology of the players and that is what I try to show in my writing.
Best skills
I try to understand the characted of my student and then to apply what suits him/her best. Different students require different approaches.
Teaching methodology
It's all about what goes on in the head. If it's good quality thoughts then the outcome (the move) will also be good. The more I understand the process of thinking, the more I can influence it and improve it. It requires cooperation!
