Analyzing Using Stockfish 17
Stockfish 17 is here, so how do we use it?As always, opinions are mine, not those of Lichess.org.
Of course you can use Lichess' in-browser engine as StockfishNews announced here, and of course you are welcome to use GUIs such as En Croissant and Nibbler. I love downloading, maanging, and opening PGN files as much as anyone else, and I love overclocking my phones to refute the Jerome Gambit. But for a moment let's assume I'm normal... is there a better way?
relevant xkcd: Workaround
Yes there is! Install Lichess Local Engine and now you can analyze positions from the convenience of your browser, using a custom Stockfish or other engine running on your PC (or home server, or cloud server farm).
That's too simple, you say? Fine, then try installing External engine (alpha 2) and don't blame me if things go wrong! Good luck!
