About me

My name is Artem Gilevych and I was born in 1993 in Ukraine. I started playing chess when I was 7 years old and when I was 13 I moved to Italy, where I have had success both as a player and as an instructor.
In 2014 I became a Fide Master (FM) and an International Master (IM) in 2018. In the last few years I have also been focusing on teaching chess apart of actively playing it.
I am also passionate about other sports as an amateur.

Teaching experience

I started teaching 4 years ago and I am a member of the school of chess “Le due Torri” http://www.scuoladiscacchileduetorri.it
In 2015 I became an instructor. I teach to young players with an excellent prospective and I have helped many players to make a big step in terms of quality of their game. I can give guidance in their chess growth to players of various levels, starting from amateurs to strong player.
My approach to my students is a friendly one but efficient at the same time.

Other experiences

Responsible and guide of the Italian Federation in U20 World Championship in 2017 and 2018
2024: chess chief instructor

Best skills

Friendly and adaptable approach, suitable for every level and style of players.
I usually treat each student differently because everyone has a different style in the game. I adapt as much as I can and I prepare different lessons and exercises for each student. At the end of every lesson I ask questions to make sure things have been understood properly and I also assign exercises if necessary.
I do strongly believe that the most important thing in a student-teacher relationship is respect.

My strongest fields are:
Positional game
Different structures and their understanding
Tactical game

Teaching methodology

Each student has its own personalised lessons in which I talk about one particular argument and then assign some “homework” to strengthen what has been learnt.
I also replicate matches played by students to understand their problems and limitations and I suggest solutions to overcome them. Working on the weak points of students, allows them to grow and become stronger players.
