About me

Hi, my name is Sebastian Korman. I'm a National Master and coach from Finland. I'm also a composer and an artist. I found chess when I was 12 years old and it became my real passion right away. After that, I have spent countless hours to improve my skills, understanding chess better... And because I had coaches too when I was young I think it is my pleasure to share all this knowledge for any player who wants to improve their skills.

Playing experience

I won twice Finnish Chess Championships (U20) in 1984 and 1985 and I became a National Master in 1985 (elo rating 2295). I played in many international tournaments in the 1980s and 1990s, e.g. twice in the World Chess Championships (U20) and once in the European Chess Championships (U20). During those years I won many national tournaments in Finland too.

Teaching experience

I started to teach chess already in the 1980s in Finland where I was leading chess courses for young players. After that, I have been teaching chess to numerous players at various skill levels. During the last few years, I have been teaching mainly one-on-one. This way I can concentrate much better on my student's improvement.

Best skills

Analyzing and positional thinking. During the years I have gained experiences to find my student's weaknesses and strengths more deeply. This helps me to find a way to help them even more effectively and naturally not to forget to have fun with chess too.

Teaching methodology

I teach one to one with Skype (audio/video) with share screen options and various online tools. I will make a teaching plan personally for each student, according to their knowledge and skill level, and their goals in chess. Naturally, I am listening to my student's wishes too.
