About me
Hi! My name is Yilin, a passionate chess teacher and chess player. I was born in China and moved to Canada in 2013.
Playing experience
Having started playing chess because my dad saw a poster in my kindergarden, I had the opportunities to learn with some of the best chess teachers who have worked with multiple world chess champions, who keep inspiring my teaching methodology. Having stopped chess in 2019, I found this passion once again while in university in 2023 and now my goals are to become a Grandmaster and help my students to achieve their chess goals!
Some of my best achievements were winning CYCC (Canadian Youth Chess Championsihp) 3 times and representing Canada in World Youth Chess Champions and some other international chess tournaments, such as Susan Polgar Invitational and RIDEF (Rencontres Internationales des Échecs Francophones).
My best win was against Aryan Tari in a casual blitz during the 2024 Candidates in Toronto. Some other memoral games include drawing against Ivan Cheparinov in casual Blitz and draw against Godena, Michele in a classical tournament game.
5th place in Canadian Women Zonals 2024
I am also a chess arbiter!

I have been teaching chess for 6 years in different format and different languages: english, french and mandarin! Online private lessons, in-person group and private lessons and I absolutely love it. My students range from primary students to adults.
My proudest moments were when my students tell me that they really love chess after we started working together!
