what if we as black get a dragon and win most games with it do we really have to change but only lose games on 1 specific varient do we change that line that we play or just change that one bit
I have to confess I am guilty. For years I have played 1. .... d6 against everything, following the book of Erik Zude and Jörg Hickl.
Against 1.e4 I always had a Philidor / Black Lion setup and against 1.d4 an Old-Indian setup. With a few exceptions my first 10 moves were always the same.
A while ago I bought Jovanka Houska's course on the Caro-Kann.
I now have to think and react to what my opponent plays instead of playing the same moves over and over. There's also a lot more room to experiment with moves. In the course the Karpov variation is suggested but I like to mix it up sometimes with the Tartakower.
I'm just having more fun in chess overall compared to when my opening was scripted.

If you have a clear problem in one specific line, fix that and move on :) Dragon is a decent choice and I guess you'll play something different against 1.d4 and then you are totally fine.

I find myself and many people that I taught do very well with black opening systems, for instance I had a kid that ask about openings,I gave him the hippopotamus opening as black and the Jobava London and it actually works the opposite he score more wins with hippopotamus than jobava London.I do believe that black systems can absolutely work but the person who using as black needs to learn how to respond same with white every system should not be used a system but rather a tool to get you to a decent position and starting playing chess.
Not sure I understand. Why is the pirc anymore of a system opening than the Caro or french? Black responds in like 12 different ways depending on what white plays. Or do you mean playing 1...d6 to everything?
i dont know

With a system you almost always play the same move, the french and Caro-Kann aren't systems because you cannot play them if white play 1. d4 (if you play 1... e6 or 1...c6, this isn't called a french or a Caro-Kann). Pirc is a system because you play the same moves if white plays 1. e4 or 1. d4
