What is the state of popular music today?

Please inform ME, I'm more into old music.

I was in Whole Foods today and this autotune song came on the music system - that joint was horrible !! Autotune the whole song and seemed to be in one key. The singer's voice was not beautiful or expressive. Maybe this was just an outlier.

I think pop music is in good hands. I'm thinking in particular of Dua Lipa who revives a certain nostalgia for the music of the 90s-2010s with such diverse influences as Madonna or the modal folk music of the Balkans.

Sabrina Carpenter is also a great revelation this year and her title Espresso is truly magnificent with its slightly jazzy harmonic colors.

Teddy Swims is also an artist that I like, his songs are very interesting and he has a powerful voice

"Modern Talking" is my favourite group! It's a old group which includes two German singers but their songs are in english. Their famous songs are Brother Louie and Cheri Cheri Lady. You could try listening to Modern Talking.

Well, she is walking the line between reviving nostalgia and blatant copyright infringement, which is only possible, because she is really lawyered-up. And I think this sums up the state of popular music.
