Apparently the sounds used for the T-Rex came from the sound designers pet Jack Russel Terrier, named Buster.
Maybe like certain large reptiles such as iguanas, Komodo dragons or crocodilians.
Probably some deep rumbling sound, and not so much that ear splitting roar we hear in the movies.
